If you are an active social media user, you might have come across promotions by Hailerz (@myhailerz on Instagram) that invite everyone to join in on their weekly challenges to stand a chance to win a “special prize”.
I know I have.
But just in case you’re living under a rock (Patrick Star, is that you?🧐), I’ll fill you in on what I am referring to.
What is the Hailerz Challenge?
This is an initiative by the Hailerz platform, which is primarily a talent community, that intends to grow a community of diverse users with different skills and talents. Hailerz intends to get these talents to offer personalized experiences to fans of their work in video format at a cost.
Hailerz Challenges, however, is an initiative that focuses on giving out weekly challenges so that anyone can join one lucky individual, who is picked by a panel of judges and stands a chance to win a special prize.
My Thoughts on the Hailerz Challenges
Neither of the challenges that I was aware of seemed to fit me until I found one that matched my skills, which is writing. I rarely take part in competitions, but there was an incentive that motivated me to try - winning a “special prize” as they call it.
Despite that, there have been some things that have been threatening to hold me back from participating. That would be the fear of losing, and that my submission wouldn’t be good enough despite having run an active blog for three years (yes, I do struggle with imposter syndrome from time to time).
However, I took a deeper look into the entire purpose of these challenges, and here is why I think taking part in these challenges is worth the try.
1. It is a good opportunity to showcase one's skills.
The essence of having a gift is for it to be shared with others, not to be hidden. The Hailerz Challenges, through their platform, enables talents to display their work and possibly attract a following of people who like what they do.
I have seen some challenges that have allowed talents to work with big names in the industry, such as the Hailerz Logo Design Challenge for ACME Labs. The winner was able to brag about having done a logo design for that company in their portfolio, thus increasing their work prospects in the world of graphic design.
2. It allows for one to receive feedback on their submissions.
The platform also allows for talents to receive feedback on their submitted projects from fellow talents thus also getting different perspectives that others had about their work as well as constructive criticism where needed.
Additionally, the judges who are responsible for picking a winner for every challenge can sometimes give their own two cents on your submission and how to make it better.
3. It builds confidence in one's abilities.
Confidence is built when you get to do something repetitively. Talents who commit to participating in a certain number of challenges regularly would greatly benefit from these challenges as they flex their creative muscles regularly, and just like physical exercise, the effects are felt in a compounding effect.
4. One stands a chance to win something special.
It wouldn’t be fun if there wasn’t any incentive, would it?
The Hailerz Challenges’ prizes are sometimes not specified per challenge, which makes it even more exciting because you never know what you’re going to get.
In the past 31 challenges, I have seen talents win wonderful prizes (think money - as much as $100!) and also resourceful prizes. For instance, the winner of the Hailerz Animation Challenge won a drawing tablet, and the winner of the Hailerz Voiceover Challenge received $50 as a gift and $40 worth of sound recording equipment.
Participating in Hailerz Challenges could help you win something that could be of great use to you, especially if you couldn’t afford it.
5. One finds a community of talents to be part of.
We all need community. The Hailerz platform is just that - a community of talents to share their work and inspire each other.
You can go through various submitted projects in your field of interest and draw inspiration from those who do the same thing as you do. You can also learn a thing or two about your field of work that you could add to your knowledge bank.
Conclusion
The above points are the reason why I think it is beneficial to participate in the Hailerz Challenges. Remember: you have everything to gain and absolutely nothing to lose by taking part in them.
Even if you miss out on the prize, you still will have the opportunity to receive feedback on your work, you will also have added a few projects to your portfolio, and you will have built confidence in your skills.
